New Delhi, Nov 26 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Wednesday issued notice to two sports organisations and the central government over a plea for Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry made by weightlifter Monica Devi. She was barred from going to the Beijing Olympics following alleged doping charges, which later turned out to be without basis.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice S. Muralidhar issued notice to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and the central government for Jan 7, 2009, the next date of hearing.

Devi in her petition demanded CBI inquiry into the matter alleging she could not participate at the Olympics due to some conspiracy.

She was withdrawn from the Indian squad hours before she was to board the flight to Beijing after she was reported to have tested positive for an anabolic steroid.

In the pre-Olympic trial conducted by IWF in July this year, P. Shailaja performed better than Devi, but Devi was chosen because she had won a silver and two bronzes at the Asian Championships in Japan this year.

Devi alleged that she may have been framed to enable Shailaja to replace her as the latter had the support of some powerful officials.
