Court extends custody of Utsav Bhasin in BMW hit-and-run case
November 21st, 2008 - 11:11 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 21 (IANS) A city court Friday extended the custody of 19-year-old Utsav Bhasin, son of a Haryana based industrialist, who is accused of knocking down and killing a motorcyclist while driving his BMW car.Metropolitan Magistrate Saurabh Kulshrestha sent Utsav to jail till Dec 4 after he was brought before the court on the expiry of his judicial custody.
Bhasin, who is in jail since Sept 27 after he surrendered before the police following the Delhi High Court’s refusal to grant him anticipatory bail, has filed a fresh bail application in the high court.
The high court, taking his application for consideration, has asked the police to file their reply Nov 25.
Earlier, a trial court Oct 17 dismissed his bail plea, saying the probe was at initial stage and his release could hamper it.
Bhasin was allegedly behind the wheel when his BMW car hit two men on a motorcycle around 2.30 a.m. on Sep 11 near Moolchand flyover in south Delhi.
Anuj Singh, a BPO employee who received spinal injuries, succumbed to his injuries the next day after the incident. His pillion rider, Mrigank Singh, a journalist, received injuries and was hospitalised.
