Court bars Gujarat varsity registrar from holding office
June 22nd, 2011 - 1:00 am ICT by IANSGandhinagar, June 21 (IANS) The Gujarat High Court Tuesday prohibited the registrar of Saurashtra University (SU) from functioning in the post as he was removed by the chancellor in February.
The division bench of Chief Justice S.J. Mukhopadhaya and Justice J.B. Pardiwala sought to know from the university vice chancellor why the orders of the chancellors for removal of registrar Gajendra Jani were not followed.
The court also issued notices to the state government, Jani and others on a petition by Mukesh Chavda, a senate member of the university.
The chancellor directed the university Feb 1 to remove Jani as he didn’t have the requisite qualification or experience to hold the post of registrar.
The case would be heard next July 14.
