New Delhi, July 31 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Friday issued notices to the Delhi government and a private school for denying admission to a poor student under a quota for the economically weaker section (EWS).
Justice Anil Kumar issued notice to the Delhi government and the Taksila Public School, in Shahdara area, and directed them to explain by Aug 10 why Apurva Sharma was not given admission.

The court was hearing the student’s plea, filed through Social Jurist, an NGO. He has contented that the school, where he studied till Class 10, has refused to promote him to class 11 under the EWS category.

Apurva’s counsel Ashok Agarwal told the court that the school had thus violated the provisions of the Delhi School Education (Free Seats for Students belonging to Economically Weaker Sections) Order, 2006.

He argued that by turning down the student’s plea the school also violated the orders passed by the court.
