New Delhi, July 22 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Wednesday said it is the responsibility of schools, which got land at throw away prices from the government, to fill up 15 percent seats with students from economically poor background.
A division bench headed by Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice Manmohan warned the schools not to admit other students under this quota and, if they do so their admissions will stand cancelled.

The court said that if schools cannot fill up the seats on their own, they could inform the Directorate of Education and it will send them students.

It directed the schools to publise the scheme so that students approach schools in large numbers.

The court also directed the Delhi government to submit a detailed report stating how many students are studying in schools under the scheme by Aug 25, and slated the hearing for Aug 26.

At the last hearing, the government had informed the court that 189 private schools, including Air Force Bal Bharati-Lodhi Road, DPS-Mathura Road, and Tagore International-East of Kailash had failed to comply with the court’s order for quota.

The court was hearing a public interest petition filed by NGO Social Jurist through counsel Ashok Aggarwal, seeking action against private unaided schools who are not adhering to the norms.
