Court asks DDA for records on 2004 housing scheme
March 24th, 2010 - 7:07 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 24 (IANS) The Delhi High Court, hearing a petition alleging irregularities in the process of allotment of flats, has asked the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for a list of flat allotees under its 2004 housing scheme.
A division bench of acting Chief Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice Mukta Gupta directed the DDA to submit the list of people allotted two-bedroom flats under the scheme launched in 2004.
The court was hearing a petition of Narain Das Arora who alleged discrepancies in the DDA’s allotment draw.
Arora’s counsel R.K. Bhardwaj in the petition said, “Many successful allotees did not figure in the list because of the change in the application number by the DDA on its own.”
Arora had applied for a flat under the DDA’s MIG flats scheme in Dwarka, Mayur Vihar and Rohini. When the list of allotees was published in newspapers, his application number appeared in it but the name against the application number was that of someone else, he alleged.
“Depriving someone a flat despite allotment is absolutely unjustified, discriminatory, illegal and against the principles of justice and equity,” Bhardwaj argued.
“Due to non-allotment of the flat, Das has been deprived of the valuable right and has suffered trauma and harassment. Despite a number of representations to the DDA, Das has suffered a lot,” he said.
The DDA claimed that while accepting the forms, the bank allotted identical numbers to some of the applicants and this created confusion and to clear this, DDA prefixed a number to identical numbers on the list.
“The successful allotee was not Das as his original number was changed and was prefixed with another number,” counsel for the DDA said.
