Court asks cop why charge sheet in 1984 riots case missing
April 7th, 2010 - 11:19 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, April 7 (IANS) A city court Wednesday summoned the then Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajiv Ranjan April 17 to explain why one of the charge sheets is missing in the 1984 anti-Sikh riot cases in which Congress leader Sajjan Kumar is an accused.
The court asked as to why the charge sheet number 67/87 is not on record when Delhi Police are claiming that the report is ready to be filed in the court.
A panel of special prosecutors appointed by the Delhi High court in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case found an FIR registered in 1987 in Nangloi police station is still pending with no action taken on it.
Senior advocate H.S. Phoolka, counsel for victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, said: “The reason that this FIR was not pursued by the police is that Sajjan Kumar is an accused. When the police could not remove his name from the charge sheet 67/87, they completely forgot about it.”
