January 8th, 2010 - 8:50 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 8 (IANS) A city court Friday acquitted four men accused of hatching a conspiracy to attack the Indian Military Academy (IMA) at Dehradun in 2005.
It, however, held two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) members guilty of possessing explosives in the same case.
Additional Sessions Judge Dharmesh Sharma absolved Haroon Rashid, Mohd Iftikhar, Masood Ahmed and Maulana Dilawar Khan of the charges relating to waging war against the country, and related offences under the Indian Penal Code and the Explosives Substances Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The court, however, convicted Hameed Hussain and Mohd Shariq who were arrested March 5, 2005, with 10.5 kg RDX in the capital. The Delhi police’s special cell had unearthed the alleged conspiracy to attack the elite IMA at Dehradun following the arrest of Hameed and Shariq.
According to the prosecution, the four acquitted persons had prepared a plan to attack the military academy.
