Couple robbed of car at gunpoint

Zirakpur (Punjab), Jan 29 (IANS) Two unidentified miscreants waylaid a couple and forced them out of their car at gunpoint, before driving away with the vehicle in this Punjab town late Friday, police said.According to the police, the criminals also fired in the air and at the rear seat of the vehicle.

The victim was identified as Navjit Singh, a businessman based in Phase-III of Mohali town, who had come with his wife to attend a wedding party here Friday night.

“The accused, who were travelling in a Maruti 800 car, intercepted the Swift car. One of them came out of the car and pointed the pistol towards Navjit and told the couple to leave their vehicle. When he resisted, the accused started firing,” Yogi Raj, investigation officer of the case, told IANS Saturday.

“Navjit and his wife left the car and the accused drove away with it. We have registered a case and started our investigation. We will nab the culprits at the earliest,” he said.

Zirakpur town is around 10 km away from the state capital Chandigarh.
