New Delhi, Sep 26 (IANS) Delhi Police have arrested a couple who allegedly posed as siblings and robbed the families of those who “married” the woman. Stolen jewellery worth Rs.350,000 was recovered from the duo.
On Sept 10, police got information that three people - Ravinder Singh, his sister Monika and mother Bishan Devi - all residents of Chirag Delhi area of south Delhi, were admitted to AIIMS after being administered some poisonous substance.

“Bishan Devi told us that on Sep 2, Ravinder married Mamta at a temple in Faridabad in the presence of Mamta’s brother Rajesh. On night of Sep 9, Mamta gave tea to her and her daughter Monika and milk to Ravinder Singh. When they got up the next day, they found themselves in AIIMS,” a senior police officer said.

The family later discovered that Mamta was missing from the house with valuables and jewellery.

“On investigation, it was found that Mamta was second wife of Rajesh, a labourer. Mamta’s real name is Suman and Rajesh’s real name is Ashok Singh. The duo were arrested from near Badarpur border area,” the police officer added.

“On interrogation, it was revealed that Rajesh used to introduce Mamta as his sister and then extract money from those ready to marry her. Once married, the duo used to decamp with valuables and jewellery,” the police officer said.

According to the police officer, the couple admitted to carrying out several other robberies in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi and stealing valuables from families after getting Mamta married into them.

Possibilities of their involvements in more such incidents are being verified, the police officer added.
