Lucknow, June 2 (IANS) A young couple was assaulted with sticks and iron rods and then strangled to death by family members of the girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district Monday after they were caught together in a house. “The couple, Mamta and Seetu, were having an affair since long. As Mamta went missing Sunday night, her family members launched a hunt and found her hiding with Seetu in his relative’s house in Nawada Bilsanda village,” police officer Mani Ram Rao told IANS.
The girl’s family was against the relationship. Mamta’s father Nanhe and her brothers started beating the couple with sticks and rods and later strangled them, he added.
A police complaint has been registered against the girl’s family members, who are absconding.
