Couple held with 15 pistols in Uttar Pradesh
August 21st, 2011 - 3:42 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Aug 21 (IANS) A young couple involved in smuggling firearms was arrested with 15 pistols in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district Sunday, police said.
Arif, 24, and his wife Anjum, 21, were nabbed from Shikohabad area while they were on their way to hand over the consignment to some of their clients.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that the two have been operating in various states, including Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and also NCR (National Capital Region) for around last four years,” Deputy Superintendent of Police B.P. Singh told reporters in Firozabad, some 350 km from Lucknow.
“Though the pistols are of a high-quality, we are yet to ascertain whether the firearms are foreign-made or country-made,” he added.
Arif and Anjum are natives of Uttar Pradesh.
