Jind (Haryana), Oct 28 (IANS) A man and a woman were found hanging from a tree in a village in Haryana’s Jind district, and their family members and relatives were booked Wednesday, police said.
Villagers told police that the bodies of 22-year-old Nandu and 20-year-old Bittu were discovered hanging from a tree in Sapa Kheri village, 30 km from here, late Tuesday.

Later, the bodies were brought down and cremated by one of the families before police arrived at the scene.

According to the police, there were some incidents of clashes between the police and villagers Wednesday as the latter were not allowing police to enter the village.

“Initially, there was some resistance from villagers as they were not allowing us to enter the village. However, we convinced them and gained entry. Police and forensic experts inspected the crime spot and the place where the bodies were cremated,” Jind district police chief Satheesh Baalan told IANS.

He added: “We have collected some vital clues and our investigation is on. Till now police have not arrested anybody but we have booked the family members and some close relatives of the deceased boy and the girl.”

According to locals, the couple had eloped from their respective homes two days ago. They were in love but their families were opposed to their relationship.

Sapa Kheri village in this district of Haryana is around 200 km from state capital Chandigarh.
