Counterfeit currency racket busted in Delhi
September 25th, 2010 - 10:35 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 25 (IANS) The Delhi Police Saturday claimed to have busted a fake currency racket in south Delhi and arrested three people. Counterfeit notes valued notionally at Rs.1.6 lakh and a car were also recovered from the accused.
“Based on complaints from businessmen of south Delhi, we launched an investigation. We laid a trap in the vegetable markets of Sewa Nagar and Kotla Mubarakpur,” a senior police official said.
The three accused - Shakil Ahmed, Shankar Singh and Rahul Pal - were arrested there.
“Shakil (45) provided logistics and other technical equipment to Shankar (35) who scanned and printed the fake notes. Rahul (24) searched people, who wanted to earn easy money and later sold the fake notes,” the police official told IANS.
A car, Rs.1.6 lakh in counterfeit currency, two printers and scanners, six boxes of ink cartridges, two dye boards, stamps of varied serial numbers, and some other documents were seized from their hideout.
