Cops gun down wanted criminal in Uttar Pradesh
July 28th, 2011 - 12:39 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, July 28 (IANS) A criminal wanted in over 16 cases of murder, abduction and loot was killed in a gunbattle with police in Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh but his accomplice managed to escape, police said Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off, police late Wednesday raided a place in Sofipur town on the outskirts of Firozabad district, some 250 km from Lucknow.
“On reaching the spot, the criminals started firing. We retaliated, and Munnawar Khan alias Munna was killed,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Surendra Kumar said.
Khan, 28, a native of Firozabad, primarily operated in western parts of the state.
“A constable was injured in the firing while Munnawar’s aide managed to flee under the cover of darkness,” he added.
