Cop suspended after five illegal miners killed
February 8th, 2012 - 2:18 pm ICT by IANSBokaro, Feb 8 (ANS) A police officer has been suspended following the death of five women involved in illegal coal mining, an official said Wednesday.
According to police, the officer in charge of Chandrapura police station, Suresh Prasad has been suspended for dereliction of duty.
“The officer Suresh Prasad has been suspended as illegal mining was going on within his jurisdiction,” Kuldeep Dwiwedi, Superintendent of Police of Bokaro district told reporters here.
Five illegal women miners died Tuesday when a closed-down coal mine collapsed.
Some eight to ten women were extracting coal from a closed-down mine situated near Pem Pahari of Bokaro district. The roof of the mine collapsed burying the women, five of whom died in the incident.
Police have also lodged FIRs against five people for indulging in illegal mining.
