Cop suspected of raping minor sacked
November 17th, 2010 - 6:51 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, Nov 17 (IANS) A senior police inspector was Wednesday sacked after his name came up as a suspect in the rape of a 15-year-old girl who was forced into prostitution, police said.
“The director general (of Maharashtra police D. Sivanandan) has issued the sacking orders of (senior inspector) Anil Borude,” said Mumbai Commissioner of Police Sanjeev Dayal.
The case came to light when the victim’s family discovered in June that the teenager was four months pregnant and that an abortion was not possible, another police official said.
The victim gave birth Oct 17 and her family filed a police complaint Nov 1. Following the complaint, the police Nov 2 arrested Shanta Gaikwad, a woman who worked as a domestic help in Powai.
She was accused of forcing the teenager into prostitution after luring her on the pretext of a job.
Police identified the rapist as Borude, who has not reported for work since the last two weeks citing ill-health.
Borude’s name was not mentioned in the complaint registered by the victim’s family.
The police have started collecting forensic evidence. The victim’s blood sample has been sent for tests, said an official.
