New Delhi, Sep 25 (IANS) A Delhi Police head constable was arrested for shooting a businessman dead and then injuring a youth helping police to chase him, police said Sunday.

While the accused has been identified as Ajay Tomar, the deceased Amarjeet Chaddha ran a dry-fruit business.

“The incident was reported at Lahori Gate around 9 p.m. Friday when Head Constable Surender Tyagi saw Chaddha in his car with bullet injury. He told Tyagi that a policeman fired at him,” an officer said.

“To nab the assailant, Tyagi sought the help of Sunny who was on his motorcycle. Being chased, the accused opened fire at both of them hitting Sunny on his neck,” added the officer.

Tomar jumped off a bridge in order to flee the scene but was injured and apprehended.

“Sunny and Tomar were rushed to a nearby hospital where Sunny’s condition was stated to be critical,” the official said.

Police have recovered two illegal pistols and gold chains from Tomar’s possession.

“We are ascertaining the reason for killing. We are yet to record the statement of both Sunny and Tomar as they are currently not in a condition to depose,” said the officer.
