Cook scores double century, England lead by 279 runs (Lunch report)
August 12th, 2011 - 7:31 pm ICT by IANSLondon, Aug 12 (IANS) Alastair Cook stroked double century as England piled 503/3 at lunch on the third day of the third cricket Test against India here Friday.
Cook (206) and Eoin Morgan (47) added 129 runs for the fourth wicket with England now leading by 279 runs after the rain scuttled morning session.
India went wicketless in the session and looked listless on the ground, though Praveen Kumar again bowled with a big heart and got good purchase from the conditions. Praveen bowled six overs giving only 12 runs.
But a resolute Cook was focussed on a big innings and made the Indian attack toil hard.
Resuming at 456/3 and 232 runs ahead of India, England added 47 runs in 18 overs after a delayed start and early finish to the first session due to rain.
Cook got to his double century, his second of the career after scoring 235 against Australia in the Ashes, with a clip of his leg off S.Sreesanth.
He reached his double ton in 379 balls with the help of 27 fours.
