Contractor blamed for building collapse

Palwal (Haryana), July 26 (IANS) Haryana Labour Minister Shiv Charan Lal Sharma Tuesday blamed the contractor for the collapse of a college building being built near here that left eight labourers dead.

Sharma, who visited the site, assured all help to families of the victims. He also visited the civil hospital to meet the injured.

“The concerned institute and construction company were equally and jointly responsible for the tragic incident. The families of victims should be provided financial assistance and compensation,” Sharma said.

He directed the industrial security and health department to examine whether the contractor had insurance for his staff or not. Sharma sought a detailed report on the incident from the labour department.

Eight labourers from Bihar were killed Monday evening and two others injured when the Shri Ram College of Engineering and Management building collapsed near Palwal town, 40 km from Faridabad.
