Congress vows to expose massive graft in ChhattisgarhNovember 18th, 2008 - 9:33 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, November 18 (IANS) Charging the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Chhattisgarh with siphoning off billions of rupees meant for development works, the Congress Tuesday asserted that on coming to power it would expose the massive corruption during the BJP regime.“Billions of rupees intended for different flagship programmes have been siphoned off by the BJP leaders in Chhattisgarh. No government is more corrupt than the Chhattisgarh government,” said Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari.
Tewari claimed people of Chhattisgarh have voted in favour of a change and the Congress seemed certain to come back to power.
“People were fed of the BJP government and they have voted for the Congress. We are confident that we will come to power and then will set up enquiries to expose the corrupt rule of the BJP in Chhattisgarh,” he said.
Tiwari also claimed that despite all help from the central government to combat the Maoists, the present Chhattisgarh government has failed to tackle the issue.
On the high voter turnout in Jammu and Kashmir, Tewari said it is the victory of democracy.
“The high voter turnout in the valley despite unfavourable weather shows that democracy is winning,” he said.
At least 64 percent voting was recorded on Monday in the first phase of the seven-stage polling in Jammu and Kashmir despite a boycott call by Muslim separatists.
Tewari said the faith of the people in the valley has been restored in the Indian democracy because of the development works carried out by the Congress-led government in alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
