Congress silent on Maran’s resignation

New Delhi, July 7 (IANS) The Congress Thursday declined to comment on the resignation of union minister Dayanidhi Maran from the cabinet, saying the government will respond if it feels necessary.
“If at all anything has to be said, it is for the government to say so… We should wait,” Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said.
Tewari attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over its targeting the government following Maran’s resignation.
“Did we see (Karnataka Chief Minister B.S.) Yeddyurappa resign despite so much evidence against him? Did trustees of Kushabhau Thakre Trust resign after allotment of land by Madhya Pradesh government was struck down by the apex court? Before trotting out lectures on morality, they should look within,” Tewari said in repartee to the BJP.
Answering a query, he said the BJP was “regional party of Hindi heartland”.
Maran quit Thursday over his alleged involvement in the 2G spectrum scam.
Asked about the BJP’s charge that there was lack of authority on the part of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Tewari said he was surprised at such a reaction from “a party whose DNA is remote controlled and centred in Nagpur”.
“Before pontificating, there is need to look within,” Tewari said.
On the BJP seeking resignation of Home Minister P. Chidambaram for his alleged role in the spectrum scam, Tewari said it will not be appropriate for him to comment as he was a member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee looking into matters related to allocation and pricing of telecom licences and spectrum.
