Congress office sealed in anti-encroachment drive
March 30th, 2011 - 12:14 am ICT by IANSDhanbad, March 29 (IANS) The Dhanbad district administration Tuesday sealed the offices of the Congress party, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and others during an anti-encroachment drive, said an official.
On the directive of the Jharkhand High Court, an anti-encroachment drive has been launched in Ranchi, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Jhamshedpur and other districts of the state.
Four offices, including that of the Congress party, the IMA Dhanbad, Jharkhand Olympic Association (JOA) and INTUC located at the district council building in Dhanbad were sealed Tuesday.
The building is an illegal construction on encroachment land. The court, while hearing a public interest litigation, had directed the state government early this month to demolish even government buildings which come under the encroachment law.
When the officials went to seal the offices, the Congress protested the move. The officials explained to the party workers about the court order.
More than 1000 shops illegally constructed on encroachment land were removed in Bokaro last week and over 1200 shops in Ranchi.
Over 25 people have been injured in clashes with police.
