Congress leader held for Mumbai businessman’s killing
September 21st, 2010 - 10:19 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, Sep 21 (IANS) Congress leader Mohammed Ali Shaikh was arrested Tuesday in connection with the killing of a private shipping firm owner in Mumbai Sep 15, police said.
Sayyed Chand Madar, 55, was shot at in broad daylight by two unidentified motorcyclists near Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) railway station in south Mumbai. He succumbed to his injuries the next day.
“We have arrested Shaikh in connection with the firing at CST and the subsequent death of Madar,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Nisar Tamboli.
Madar was the owner of a private shipping firm in south Mumbai. He was alighting from his car when he was shot.
The assailants fired twice at Madar who received bullet injuries in the head.
Madar had been booked for several offences over the years, a police official said.
