Congress influencing police: Ashok Argal
September 6th, 2011 - 11:13 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, Sep 6 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ashok Argal who has also been chargesheeted in the cash for votes scam but has so far escaped arrest, Tuesday accused the Congress party of influencing the police.
Argal, along with Fagan Singh Kulaste and Mahavir Singh Bhagora, was allegedly sought to be bribed to vote in favour of Congress during the 2008 trust vote and facilitated a sting-operation to record the proceedings.
Argal said the chargesheet in the case was influenced.
A court Tuesday sent Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh as well as former BJP MPs Fagan Singh Kulaste and Mahavir Singh Bhagora to judicial custody till Sep 19.
“We respect the decision of the court, but the court decision is based on the chargesheet filed by the police,” Argal told reporters.
“The chargesheet has proved us corrupt, had we been corrupt, we would not have got the TV cameras to expose it. We would not have shown the currency notes in parliament,” he said.
Argal has not been arrested yet and the police have asked for Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar’s sanction to do so.
“The Congress has got this done, why did the police not act for three years and is acting now after the Supreme Court order,” he asked.
Argal also asked why they were charged to be corrupt but no action taken against the media house that conducted the sting operation.
“Why has the media house involved in the operation not been charged? They did the sting operation,” he added.
On July 22, 2008, the three BJP MPs waved wads of currency notes in the Lok Sabha ahead of a trust vote, alleging they were given the money to vote in favour of the Manmohan Singh government.
