Mamata Banerjee New Delhi, Jan 6 (IANS) Expressing hope there could be a convergence of views with United Progressive Alliance constituent Trinamool Congress, the Congress Friday said minor differences with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee can be sorted out through in depth discussion.

“There have been differences with the TMC. But to say they can not be reconciled is not right,” Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters, adding “there is nothing that cannot be sorted out through indepth talks. We hope for a convergence of views.”

The Congress-TMC ties have been under strain in the past month after party chief Mamata Banerjee blocked the government’s decision to allow 51 percent foreign equity in multi brand retail and took a stand against the Lokpal bill in the Rajya Sabha saying some of its provisions were against federal autonomy on the issue of Lokayukta in states.

The differences between the Congress and the TMC, which have an alliance in West Bengal, became pronounced with her recent decision to rename a community hall in Kolkata, named in the memory of former prime minister Indira Gandhi, after popular Bengali poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

Mamata also accused the Congress of playing the ‘B team’ to her bete noire Communist Party of India-Marxist in the state.
