Anna Hazare New Delhi, Dec 20 (IANS) Defending the central government’s decision to return to the Mayawati government the proposal for division of Uttar Pradesh into four parts, the Congress Tuesday demanded setting up of state reorganisation commission to look into the demand for creation of new states.

“We have said this issue does not concern only Uttar Pradesh but such demands are being raised in other states. State reorganisation commission should be formed,” Congress spokesperson Raashid Alvi said here.

However, he did not give a categorical reply to Mayawati’s move for division of Uttar Pradesh.

“We neither support it, nor oppose it,” Alvi said.

Alvi also asked Anna Hazare to come clear on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh backing his anti-corruption agitation.

Answering a query on Bharatiya Janata Party targeting Home Minister P. Chidambaram in 2G spectrum case and for allegedly helping a Delhi-based hotelier in getting police complaints withdrawn, Alvi said the minister was “absolutely innocent” and there was no allegation against him.
