May 22nd, 2009 - 8:20 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 22 (IANS) The Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) Thursday urged the Congress party, the largest party in the new government, to undertake police reforms in the first 100 days after taking office.
“In its first 100 days of office, CHRI urges Congress to take concrete steps to ensure full implementation of the Supreme Court directives on police reforms and strongly encourage the state governments to implement the directives at the state level,” CHRI director Maja Daruwala said in a statement here.
“The next 100 days offer a unique moment for the new government to lead by example and take steps that indicate its intention to obey the Supreme Court’s directions and its own election manifesto,” Daruwala added.
