College student killed in Uttar Pradesh accident
April 21st, 2011 - 12:26 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, April 21 (IANS) A student was killed and 12 injured when the vehicle taking them to college skidded off the road and fell into a deep pit in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district here Thursday, police said.
The accident took place in Jaita town when the jeep carrying students of C.S. Degree College overturned.
“While a student died on the spot, others trapped in the jeep were rescued with the help of the locals,” police inspector Ravindra Pal Singh told reporters in Etah, some 300 km from Lucknow.
“The accident took place when the students were on their way to the college. All the injured, including the driver, have been admitted to a hospital. The condition of four students is stated to be serious,” he added.
According to police, the exact cause behind the accident was yet to be ascertained.
