Mumbai, Nov 26 (IANS) “Coherent intelligence” by a single agency which processes information from varied agencies and sources is the key to ensuring sound security in India and to prevent recurrence of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, Home Secretary G.K. Pillai said Thursday.
Addressing an international conference on “Building Secure Cities for Economic Prosperity & Growth,” Pillai said that of the three actions - prevention, response and relief, the first assumes the greatest significance in averting terror attacks.

“Most of the resources should be deployed towards preventing such crises, for which there should be coherent information provided by a single agency which gathers inputs from other agencies,” he suggested.

Pillai said the central home ministry is currently carrying out a daily review of the inputs from various agencies and will soon make the National Intelligence Grid operational.

Speaking at the function, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) jointly with The EuroIndia Centre here, Pillai stressed the need for having standard operating procedures for the police forces in all the states of India.

He pointed out that the importance of initiating police reforms is one of the key recommendations of a CII report on internal security submitted to the centre.

CII Urban Development Council chairman Rajesh Shah spoke about several initiatives taken by the industry body to address security issues with a fine focus on the role of the corporates.

“There is the CII Taskforce on Internal Security under the chairmanship of retired diplomat Naresh Chandra which would soon be preparing and submitting a report recommending measures to strengthen security,” Shah, who is co-chairman and managing director of Mukand Ltd, said.

Other prominent speakers at the meeting held in Hotel Taj Mahal Palace & Tower included Wim Elfrink, the chairman of CII Steering Group on Intelligent Urbanisation and Collette Mathur and Harjit Anand, the co-presidents of The EuroIndia Centre.
