New Delhi, April 2 (IANS) Compressed natural gas (CNG) will be slightly more expensive in Delhi as its rate is being hiked by 30 paisa per kilogram from midnight Saturday to take its price to Rs. 29.30 per kilogram.

“Minor adjustment amounting to one percent has been done because of increase in operating expenses as a result of revision of minimum wages by the government,” said Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) managing director Rajesh Vedvyas.

The hike “would have marginal impact on the running cost of CNG vehicles,” he added.

The price rise would be effective from midnight April 2.

“Despite the increase, CNG would still offer nearly 64 percent savings towards the running cost when compared to petrol-driven vehicles at the current level of prices. When compared to diesel- driven vehicles, the economics in favour of CNG at revised price would be over 22 percent,” added Vedvyas.

The price of the gas has also increased by 35 paisa per kilogram in neighbouring towns of Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, which are part of the National Capital Region. The hike takes its price there to Rs.32.85 per kg.
