Cloudy, hot Tuesday in Delhi, rains in store (Lead)

New Delhi, July 24 (IANS) It was a cloudy, humid and rainless day for Delhi residents Tuesday with the maximum temperature settling five notches above average at 38.6 degrees Celsius. The met office has forecast rains Wednesday.

Officials at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that with a total of 88.7 mm rainfall recorded so far in this season, the capital’s rain deficit has grown to 60 percent.

However, the skies will remain cloudy Wednesday with thundershowers expected to lash parts of the city.

“Light rains and thundershowers will occur in some parts of the city,” an IMD official said adding that the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 36 and 29 degrees Celsius respectively.

Monsoon is expected to last in Delhi till Sep 20.

Tuesday’s minimum temperature was three notches above average at 29.3 degrees Celsius, while the humidity levels wavered between a high of 82 and a low of 48 percent.

Monday’s maximum temperature was 37.2 degrees, while the minimum was 29.8 degrees - both three notches above average.
