New Delhi, Dec 8 (IANS) India football captain Climax Lawrence is likely to take a call on his international career after the ongoing SAFF Cup.

The 32-year-old Dempo midfielder, on the eve of India’s semifinal clash against the Maldives, indicated that he was mulling over his international career.

“I will decide about my future once the tournament gets over. Once I reach Goa I shall take a call on it,” Lawrence told IANS at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here Thursday.

India coach Savio Medeira felt the mid-fielder still has a couple of years left in him to carry on.

“I don’t want to interfere in the personal decision of any player. But I feel that he still has a couple of years left in him for international football,” he said.

Lawrence started his career with Salgaocars in 1998 and after a six-year stint shifted to East Bengal. He joined Dempo in 2005 after a season with East Bengal. He was first called up by former national coach Stephen Constantine in 2002 and since then has been a part of the national team.

Medeira was visibly upset when asked whether the SAFF Cup was the last tournament of his two ageing defenders Sameer Naik and Mahesh Gawli. “I don’t think so,” was Medeira’s blunt reply.

The two Dempo defenders have crossed 30 and are getting slow, but Medeira said: “Age is not a matter (of concern). They will be in the team as long as they perform.”
