New Delhi, Aug 31 (IANS) Churchill Brothers coach Emeka Ezugo lashed out at his star Nigerian striker Odafe Onyeka Okolic for being complacent on the field.Defending champions Churchill beat Army XI 1-0 to book semifinal berth in Durand Cup here Sunday but coach Emeka was fuming with anger after seeing his boys’ lacklustre performance.

“He (Odafe) is probably the best player in the country and that’s why he thinks he knows everything about the game. You always have to be a student of the game if you want to do well. That is the main problem with him,” said Emeka, who played for Nigeria in the 1994 World Cup.

In fact, not everything has been running smooth between Odafe and Emeka since the day the latter took over the coaching reins from Moroccan Karim Bencherifa. The duo reportedly had some tension during the team’s practice session in Goa and Churchill officials were forced to sit down with them to solve the issue.

Emeka, who has also played in Kolkata clubs in the past, hoped that in the coming days things will improve.

“I hope things improve in the coming days when the I-League starts,” he said.

Odafe was the top-scorer last season and is reportedly the highest paid footballer in the country. The Nigerian’s track record though is not as good and he also had some problems with earlier coach Bencherifa, who has now joined Mohun Bagan.
