Chinese woman held for selling outdated meat
June 17th, 2011 - 1:45 pm ICT by IANSBeijing, June 17 (IANS) A woman meat vendor has been detained in Beijing for selling expired products to restaurants, officials said.
More than 20 officials with Beijing’s industry and commerce department launched an operation at a food market and detained the woman vendor, an official told China Daily.
The woman’s motor tricycle was filled with ham and other forms of pig meat that were confiscated as they were past their sell-by date.
The raid came after a media report claimed the woman had been selling expired food to local restaurants for a long time.
The woman later confessed that the meat was purchased from supermarkets when they disposed of their expired products, the official said.
