New Delhi, Dec 5 (IANS) India Saturday ascribed Chinese objections to the construction of a road in Ladakh to the “differing perceptions” on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Jammu and Kashmir and said the issue has has already been taken up with Beijing.
“It has been taken up with the Chinese side during one of the flag meetings that we have had at the ground level,” Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao told reporters here Saturday.

“Let me say that the whole issue of the differing perceptions of LAC in the area around Demchok (in Ladakh) has been taken up on many occasions with the Chinese side,” Rao said when asked about the Chinese objections to the road construction.

The Kashmir government has said the construction of an eight km road in the remote Demchok area of Buddhist-dominated Ladakh near the LAC had been stopped after objections from the Chinese army.

Rao said India and China were working through a proper mechanism to resolve all such disputes.

Asked about media reports that United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) leader Paresh Barua was in China and whether India had made any request for his extradition, she replied: “Barua is wanted in India for crimes against the state…We are in touch with our neighbours and we expect all our neighbours to act responsibly.”
