Chinese man who killed kids with rat poison executed
May 29th, 2011 - 6:32 pm ICT by IANSBeijing, May 29 (IANS) A Chinese man who added rat poison to food to kill a school cook but which instead led to the death of two children, has been executed, officials said Sunday.
Li Shengguang, 68, was the owner of the land where the Muge Township Wenda Kindergarten was built in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. He added poison to a meal intended for Lu Zhikun, a cook at the school with whom Li had a long-term dispute.
But the cook never ate the poisoned meal. Instead 21 children - aged two to five - ate the food that contained the rodenticide.
Two children died before reaching hospital, while the remaining 19 fell ill.
Li was sentenced to death by a court in August 2010. He did not appeal the verdict. The decision was recently approved by the Supreme People’s Court.
