China’s two mn police officers to take test
September 25th, 2011 - 9:36 pm ICT by IANSBeijing, Sep 25 (IANS) Chinese police officers, who number around two million, will have to sit for a qualification examination to test their abilities to carry out their duties this year, a vice minister said Sunday.
Vice minister of public security Yang Huanning said that last year, the ministry issued a circular on the qualification examination, ordering all police officers to take the basic qualification examination.
Yang was speaking at a symposium on the standardisation of police work, in Harbin, capital of northeast Heilongjiang province, reported Xinhua.
He added that police officers are encouraged to pass examinations for intermediate and senior ranks to get promoted.
A police officer has to take part in such an exam once every five years, he said.
The move is expected to encourage Chinese police officers to study hard in an effort to master the laws and regulations, which can help them do a better job, Yang said.
