Beijing, June 23 (Xinhua) China has penalised 43 erring officials tasked with the supply of relief materials to the victims of the devastating earthquake in the south-western province of Sichuan. The quake measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale devastated the country May 12, killing and wounding thousands.
Ma Wen, the country’s minister of supervision, told a press conference Monday that disciplinary measures and administrative sanctions have been imposed on the officials.
Among the 43, twelve serious offenders have been removed from their posts, she said. Ma is also the head of the National Bureau of Corruption Prevention (NBCP).
She said by June 20, the country had received 1,178 public complaints about official misdeeds.
“Among these cases, 1,007 have been probed and resolved,” Ma said, noting most of the cases are about improper distribution of tents and food, and the rest are about slow or inefficient official responses.
