Child dies of food poisoning, 100 fall ill in Punjab
April 5th, 2011 - 7:12 pm ICT by IANSMoga (Punjab), April 5 (IANS) A 10-year-old child died and around 100 people, including many children, fell ill after consuming food at a religious function at Jaitu village in Punjab Tuesday.
The child, Gurjant Singh of Guruki Dhab village, died while being taken to a hospital.
According to the police, it was the suspected case of food poisoning.
“A langar (community kitchen) was organised at the house of Gurmail Singh here. Immediately after eating the food Gurjant complained of severe pain in stomach. He died while he was on the way to hospital,” said a police official here.
“Around 100 people, including 20 children, have fallen ill. They have been taken to various nearby hospitals for treatment. Doctors said that condition of five persons is serious and they are admitted at Faridkot Medical College,” he added.
The health department officials had collected the samples of the food and a police investigation is on.
