Child crushed to death in Delhi, truck torched
February 18th, 2011 - 11:53 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Feb 18 (IANS) A child was crushed and another injured when they came under the wheels of a truck in northwest Delhi’s Rohini area Friday morning, triggering tension in the area as angry locals stoned the vehicle and then torched it. “At around 8.20 a.m., we were informed that a truck had crushed two children in Sector 20 of Rohini,” a police officer told IANS.
“One child died on the spot, while the other has been rushed to a hospital,” he added.
The accident led to tension in the area as residents hurled stones at the vehicle and set it on fire even as the driver was arrested by the police.
“Two fire tenders have been rushed to the spot and we are still trying to douse the fire,” said an official from the fire department.
