Chidambaram reviews West Bengal law and order situation

Kolkata, Dec 8 (IANS) Home Minister P. Chidambaram Monday reviewed West Bengal’s law and order situation at a meeting held here against the backdrop of the Mumbai terror strikes.Chidambaram, who was here for the foundation stone laying ceremony of a coin museum, was briefed by state Chief Secretary Amit Kiran Deb on the additional security measures taken following the Nov 26 terrorist strikes.

Dev also gave details of the intensified vigil being maintained in sensitive areas and five-star hotels, shopping malls and crowded places to prevent any untoward incident.

The state’s Director General of Police A.B. Vora and other senior government and police officers attended the meeting at the Raj Bhavan.

In the wake of the Mumbai strikes, Kolkata Police arrested one person - Tausif Rehman - from the Howrah Station Friday in a joint operation with the Special Task Force (STF).

The police said a SIM card recovered from a Mumbai attack site was one of the 22 Rehman sold to a Kashmiri man named Mukhtar Ahmed a few months ago.
