Glasgow, Nov 11 (IANS) Scottish Premier League Champions Glasgow Rangers will take highly-rated Indian strikers Sunil Chhetri and Jeje Lalpekhlua on trial from the I-League, the club said on its website.

Both players will train at the club’s facility Murray Park around the month-end in the hope of securing contracts.

Chhetri, 27, who plays for Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan, earlier had a six-month stint with US-based Kansas City Wizards.

The Rangers website described Chhetri as an “established Indian international with an impressive strike rate of 24 goals in 52 matches”.

Lalpekhlua, 20, has re-joined former club Pune FC “and is one of his country’s most promising talents having enjoyed a prolific season with Indian Arrows”.

“Both men will be assessed during a trial period at Murray Park, training with the first-team squad, and if they impress the club’s global reach could be extended even further in the South Asian market,” it said.

Rangers’ Head of Business Development, Raymond Farrelly, is scheduled to travel to India later this month to meet high-ranking personnel from Indian League clubs in Mumbai and Kolkata before visiting the Tata football academy in Jamshedpur.

The Glasgow-based club is incorporated as Rangers Football Club and have won 54 Premier League titles.
