Raipur, May 30 (IANS) The lone policeman who was declared missing after Maoists ambushed a 10-member police squad near the Chhattisgarh-Orissa border last week was found lying unconscious near the attack site Monday, police said.

Constable Holaram, in his early 20s, was found lying unconscious near a culvert in Mainpur forest in Raipur district.

“He was found by police in a semi-naked condition with several injury marks on his body,” an officer at the police headquarters here said.

Holaram was rushed to a hospital in Raipur, and was admitted to its intensive care unit (ICU).

The constable’s body was severely dehydrated as he had spent seven days without food or water, the officer said.

Maoists ambushed the Chhattisgarh police patrol May 23 in a thickly forested area at Sonabera in Orissa, some 14 km from the border with Chhattisgarh.

Nine personnel were killed in the attack.
