Chhattisgarh tense after Maoist massacre
June 30th, 2010 - 3:14 pm ICT by IANSRaipur, June 30 (IANS) Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh met top officials here Wednesday after another cold-blooded Maoist massacre left 26 security personnel dead.
Raman Singh met at the Secretariat with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Director General Vikram Srivastava and officials of the home and police departments to review the security situation.
Details of the discussions were not immediately available.
Meanwhile, bodies of all the 26 security personnel killed in Narayanpur district Tuesday were airlifted Wednesday morning to Raipur, the state capital.
Autopsies were carried out at the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Government Hospital here.
The bodies are to be taken to the Mana police camp on outskirts of the capital where senior officials will pay rich tributes before sending their bodies to their hometowns and villages.
Police sources admitted that repeated deadly attacks by Maoist guerrillas had sparked panic among sections of security forces, particularly those deployed in the rebel bastions of Bastar region.
“The entire police force, included the paramilitary forces, is highly terrorised. The demoralised men need urgent motivation,” a police officer in Bastar told IANS.
The latest attack by Maoists claimed the lives of 24 CRPF personnel including an assistant commandant besides two members of the Chhattisgarh Police.
Maoists attacked a 70-strong force in Narayanpur district when they were returning from a road opening assignment in a thickly forested terrain, some 400 km south of Raipur.
The Maoist attackers, who were believed to be in dozens, walked away with AK-47s of the dead men.
