Singh landed at Dornapal under Konta block, which is about 45 km from the site of April 6 massacre in which 76 policemen were killed, and interacted with the locals about development-related issues.
Official sources said that Singh at Dornapal announced the monthly honorarium of special police officers (SPOs) of the state would be raised to Rs.3,000 from Rs.2,150.
There are a total of about 4,000 SPOs in the state who are recruited locally under the provisions of the Police Act to assist the security forces in Maoist areas.
Singh, who was accompanied by Chief Secretary P. Joy Oommen, and Principal Secretary N. Baijendra Kumar, carried out inspection of a government school, a relief camp and a weekly haat (market) to assess the quality of the local tribals’ life.
