Raipur, May 27 (IANS) A senior Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer in Chhattisgarh, being probed by the Income Tax department, Friday denied that he has assets worth Rs.250 crore and over 450 bank accounts.

B.L. Agrawal , a 1988-batch IAS officer, is in the dock after reports that Bhopal-based IT department office has recommended action against him in a final appraisal report sent to the state government.

“I don’t know what the IT department said or has not said in its report, the matter is sub-judice as I have moved the Chhattisgarh High Court on the issue,” Agrawal told IANS over phone.

Agrawal was suspended February last year after the IT raids at his homes in Raipur but was later reinstated by the government.

When asked about reports of his assets in crores of rupees and numerous bank accounts, Aggarwal said: “It’s absolutely not correct. The IT raid in February last year found just Rs.8.73 lakh and it was all tax-paid money.”

Chhattisgarh’s Chief Secretary P. Joy Oommen said, “The whole issue of IT raid against Agrawal and then report to the state government on the issue has been sent to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) for investigation.”

“I am waiting the final report of the EOW,” Oommen told IANS.
