Chess Olympiad: Three teams share lead
August 12th, 2012 - 12:57 am ICT by IANSChennai, Aug 11 (IANS) Poland, Spain and Germany moved into lead after the second round of the TATA 14th IBCA Chess Olympiad for the Blind here Saturday.
Spain and Poland led the table with four match points after two rounds. Poland swept Romania 4-0, while Spain made short work of Slovenia 3.5-0.5
In the fourth table, India ‘A’ held fourth seeded Ukraine to a 2-2 draw, thanks to wins in the middle board by Kishan Gangolli and Darpan Inani.
Taking an early 2-0 lead, Ukraine looked all set for a victory when the Indian duo turned the tables on the higher seed.
Results (round 2): Poland (4) bt Romania (2), Slovenia (2) lost to Spain (4), Ukraine (3) drew India ‘A’ (3), Columbia (2) lost to Germany (4), Slovakia (0) lost to Bulgaria (3), Croatia (2) bt Turkey (0), Italy (0) lost to Denmark (2), France (0) lost to Sweden (2), Kazakhastan (2) bt South Africa (0), The Netherlands (0) lost to India ‘B’ (2).
