Chennai gears up for Clinton visit
July 19th, 2011 - 10:36 pm ICT by IANSChennai, July 19 (IANS) Chennai is gearing up to receive Hillary Clinton, the first US secretary of state to visit the Tamil Nadu capital.
Security has been beefed in the city in general and also at the places Clinton is expected to visit during her stay here Wednesday, including the Taj Coromandel hotel.
Clinton, who will fly in here from New Delhi, will be participating in three functions.
She would address a gathering of students, opinion makers and other citizens at the newly built Anna Centenary Library at Kotturpuram at 1.30 p.m.
Next is a visit at around 4.30 p.m. to Kalakshetra Foundation, a landmark cultural centre, to get a first hand impression of Indian classical art forms. Later Clinton would interact with Working Women’s Forum and women self-help groups in a closed door meeting .
Clinton is also expected to meet Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa though the exact time is not known.
It is learnt Clinton might meet Jayalalithaa after addressing the students or even immediately after arrival here.
