Gandhinagar, April 7 (IANS) The Central Administrative Tribunal Thursday quashed a state government charge sheet against Gujarat cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Kuldip Sharma, served on him for alleged lapses, a lawyer said.
The CAT’s principal bench in Delhi, comprising V.K. Bali and L.K. Joshi, quashed the Narendra Modi government’s decisions and termed its action as “illegal and malafide”, said Sharma’s advocate I.H. Syed.
In a related development, the Ahmedabad bench of the CAT granted stay against downgrading of Sharma’s third annual confidential report (ACR).
As the head of state’s Criminal Investigation Department he investigated the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh staged shootout case and recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation probe in a case related to then minister of state for home Amit Shah.
Sharma, despite being the senior most IPS officer in the state, has not been promoted as state police chief. At present, he is posted as the managing director of the state-owned Gujarat State Sheep and Wool Development Corporation.
Sharma’s advocate Syed said that now the state should either promote him or allow his deputation with the central government. He said that they may move the Gujarat High Court over the issue.
